RSS is an acronym. It stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary.
RSS allows you to see when websites have added new content as soon as its published without having to visit the websites you have taken the feed from.
To access the news feeds you need an RSS feed reader. There are large number of RSS readers available for free. Probably the simplest is to create an account on Google.com and use the Google reader.
My favourite is Mozilla Thunderbird. It's an email client but it shows feeds directly under my email accounts so new articles on my favourite sites are effectively emailed to me the minute they are published.
Once you have decide on a reader it's just a matter of copying the link where ever you see the RSS icon (
) on your favourite sites and pasting it into the "Add a Feed" field in your reader.
